Ledley King's a Spur

As the end of the season approaches and rumours increase about possible transfers - the news that all Spurs' fans wanted to hear was that their captain, Ledley King (Pic:) has signed a new four year contract. Out injured at the moment and uncertain about whether he will be fit for the World Cup it is a massive boost for the club to know that he will be staying at White Hart Lane.

His admirers are many and there was the fear that he may be tempted away from the club where he developed through the youth teams and is now the longest serving player. He is a pivotal figure in the defence and has developed a good understanding with Michael Dawson and is the sort of player Spurs needs as they move forward into European competition next season.

For Spurs further development and progress it is vitally important that they retain the services of their best players and this sends out a strong message to the other players at the club. They have made amazing progress this season under Martin Jol and they want to maintain that forward momentum. The English spine of the team that they have carefully developed is maintained, Robinson, King, Dawson, Carrick, Jenas and Defoe, with Aaron Lennon making such progress this year.

King has shown great loyalty to the club and it is only right that he receives appropriate remuneration for his services. A pay structure is fine, and no one wants to see the club going into massive debt, but it must be flexible enough to ensure that quality players are retained and attracted to the club.

The club is buoyant at the moment and with a very important game on Sunday, this signature is keeping the good vibs flowing around Tottenham Hotspur and everyone believes that the club is on the brink of something very special - keep the good times coming!
